We are devastated and heartbroken by the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Charlie was more than a leader, he was a man who would talk to absolutely anyone, whether they agreed with him or not. His courage to engage in open, honest dialogue, even with those who opposed him, revealed his character. Above all, his profound love for America drove him to defend our freedoms and inspire a new generation of patriots.

Charlie became a voice for conservative students on college campuses across the country, offering them hope and courage in environments where their beliefs were often dismissed or attacked. His movement grew because he showed young Americans that it was not only acceptable, but honorable, to stand firm in their convictions and to be openly conservative in a culture that too often tried to silence them. His legacy will continue to shape future leaders who love this nation as deeply as he did.

We are outraged not only by this act of political violence, but also by the disgusting and callous remarks from the left in response. To mock or celebrate such a tragedy is un-American and beneath the dignity of this nation. Political disagreements should never become excuses for violence.

We must all stop and think about how someone could be driven to commit such an act. The media has played a dangerous role in stoking fear, spreading distortion, and feeding division. By relentlessly vilifying conservative voices, they have created an environment where ordinary people can be manipulated, radicalized, and pushed toward violence. This is not journalism it is fueling hostility and tearing at the very fabric of our nation.

We stand with Charlie’s family, friends, and all who loved him. And we call on people of faith across Deschutes County and across this nation to join us in prayer, for comfort for his family, for healing for all who are grieving, and for our country to turn away from hatred and back toward unity and truth.
