HOW DID DESCHUTES COUNTY VOTE?
We all know how the national election turned out. Big-time bad news for Republicans! However, thought you might be interested in what happened here at home.
ELECTION RESULTS
County Clerk’s Numbers
As of 11/7/08 (uncertified)
First, Voter Turnout:
There were 92,483 registered voters. Of this total, 79,914 cast ballots. That’s about 86.5%! Not bad!
Next, National and Statewide Contests
You know how we did statewide. However, Deschutes County produced some different results. Here’s how Deschutes County voted:
For President: McCain 39,918; Obama, 38,612
For Senator: Gordon Smith 40,947; Jeff Merkley, 30,886
For U. S. Representative: Greg Walden, 48,639 (65.5% of the total)
For Secretary of State: Rick Dancer, 39,460; Kate Brown, 31,704
For State Treasurer: Allen Alley, 35,478; Ben Westlund, 36,269
For State Senator: Chris Telfer, 41,891; Maren Lundgren, 28,221
For State Rep, #53: Gene Whisnant, 21,967; Conrad Ruel, 10,698
For State Rep, #54: Chuck Burley, 17,029; Judy Stiegler, 19,689
So, with the exception of Treasurer and Representative for District #54, we elected our people. Too bad the rest of the state didn’t follow!
How about local elections?
We did pretty well on local elections, too. Here were the results for Deschutes County:
Deschutes County Commissioner; Mike Daly, 31,142; Alan Unger, 37,409.
Bend Council, #1: Peter Gramlich, 13,694; Tom Greene, 13,831
Bend Council, #2: Jeff Eager, 12,476; Jody Barram, 11, 381; Dallas Brown, 3,819
Bend Council #3: Kathie Eckman, 15,471; Linda Johnson, 12,327
Bend Council # 4: Jim Clinton, 17,200; Don Leonard, 8.686
Redmond Council: George Endicott (mayor), unopposed.
Redmond Council: (Top 3 elected}:
Shirlee Evans, 3,249; Ed Boero, 2,819; Camden King, 2,689
Our “recommendeds” who failed; Ed Onimus, Chris Severin
Sisters Council: All three of our “recommendeds” made it;
Lon Kellstrom, Pat Thompson, and Jerry Bogart.
We’re sorry that Mike Daly didn’t repeat, and we hope Don Leonard, Ed Onimus and Chris Severin will be back for another shot. While all was not perfect, our local candidates did pretty well, too! Good luck to them!
And we Republicans in Deschutes County did what we set out to do, for the most part. We elected Republicans. This ain’t Democrat Country by a long shot!
